Finding a home
Older and/or disabled people
If you are aged 55 or over, the same options are open to you as to those who are aged under 55 as detailed in the rest of the 'finding a home' section. However, there are also some additional options open to you such as applying for sheltered housing or extra care housing. If you require specially adapted or purpose-built housing (for example, because you use a wheelchair), you can join the Physical Disabilities Queue (see below). You may wish to apply for sheltered housing or extra care housing or move out of London under the Seaside and Country Homes Scheme. See the older people section of the website for further details about housing options for older people, including details of help available to enable you to stay in your own home.
If you require specially adapted or purpose built housing (for example, because you use a wheelchair) you can join the Physical Disabilities Queue. If you are one of the many people with physical disabilities who do not require a wheelchair or a property with major adaptations, the same options are open to you as to those who have no disability as detailed in the rest of the 'finding a home' section. In order to be eligible to register on the Physical Disabilities Queue your present property must be unsuitable for your needs. A Social Services Occupational Therapy assessment must be carried out which supports your application and it will be used to determine your suitability for available properties. For further information and/or an application form please contact: Lettings section Phone: 020 8871 6814/6808 Alternatively, if you would like further information and advice about adapting your current property please contact the Occupational Therapy Service. If you are aged 55 or over you can apply for sheltered housing. See the disabled people section of the website for further details about housing options for people with physical disabilities, including details of help available to enable you to stay in your own home. |
