Council tenants Improving your home and garden
The following contains information on decorating and improving your home and garden. We understand that everyone wants to make their house their own but before you make any changes to your property you should read the following guidelines or/and your tenancy conditions.
You have the right to carry out improvements to your property, such as fitting a new bathroom suite or replacing kitchen units but you must first seek permission/approval from us to carry out any improvement works. Permission will not be unreasonably refused but may be given subject to certain conditions/guidelines being met. Permission will be refused if the work would cause us expense, be difficult to maintain, make it difficult to let the property in the future or give rise to complaints from other residents. Alterations that require our consent
You are responsible for looking after your garden. We expect you to keep your garden clean and tidy. You will not be able to alter, replace or plant any hedge, fence or tree around your property without getting permission from us first. You are responsible for keeping the inside of your home decorated to a reasonable standard. If you are a Council tenant, and find it difficult to carry out decorations because all members of your household are 60 years of age or more or have a disability or serious long-term illness, you may be eligible for our Concessionary Decoration Assistance Scheme. This scheme pays an allowance towards the cost of you decorating at least one room (or separate bathroom & WC), however in very exceptional cases we can decorate a room of your choice for you. For more information please contact Support Services on 020 8871 6872 or email hms@wandsworth.gov.uk. You must not alter or decorate the outside of your building, including any walls or floors, without our permission. |
