Anti-social behaviour
Noise

Disputes between neighbours may arise for a number of reasons, the common ones being loud music, children, and damage to property. We will investigate claims of noise to resolve any problems. Remedies available to us include warning letters, mediation, seeking possession, injunctions and noise abatement notices. Lack of proper sound insulation on some modern builds often means that noise travels through the walls or floors. Unfortunately, due to the current law regarding everyday noise, we are unable to take action, unless we can prove the noise is unreasonable.

If you want to know about anti-social behaviour that is not connected to our estates or residents then please see the council's anti-social behaviour unit's pages for information.

The types of noise we can deal with are:

  • Unreasonably loud music
  • Constant noise from DIY
  • Barking dogs
  • Loud TVs

How we deal with noise problems

We can deal with noise problems that are not produced by every day activities. Once a complaint is made we aim to carry out our investigations within 5 working days. We try to resolve noise problems informally where possible and initially we may contact the person causing the noise to make them aware that complaints have been made to us. We can keep your identitiy confidential if requested.

If the noise continues after we have discussed it we will start to collect evidence to prove that the noise complained about is at an unreasonable level and likely to cause a disturbance. We will attempt to visit and personally witness the noise.

There are a number routes that we can go down to resolve noise nuisance, for more information please see contact details below.
