About the Wandsworth Drug and Alcohol Action Team
The Wandsworth Drug Action Team (DAT) was formed in 1995 to co-ordinate the work of local agencies on drug misuse. It became the Wandsworth Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) in 2007. It brings together Wandsworth Council, the Metropolitan Police, the Probation Service, the Wandsworth Primary Care Trust, and HM Prison Wandsworth. In line with the updated national drug strategy 2002, 'Tackling drugs to build a better Britain', it aims to reduce the harm that drugs cause to society - communities, individuals and their families. The four key objectives of the Wandsworth DAAT are:
- To prevent today's young people from becoming tomorrow's problematic drug users;
- To reduce the supply of illegal drugs;
- To reduce drug-related crime and its impact on communities;
- To reduce drug related offending through treatment and support and reduce drug related death through harm minimization.
