In September 2008 the Metropolitan Police, in partnership with the Mayor of London, launched a new crime mapping website for London as part of the development of the Safer Neighbourhoods programme.

The site allows access to information on criminal activity at borough, ward and sub-ward level, serving to inform the public, businesses and the authorities with details of crimes across London. This mapping "also empowers communities to hold local police and partners to account for what is happening and encourages active citizenship through enabling informed involvement at a local level".

The mapping currently available on the site details residential burglary, robbery (personal and commercial) and vehicle offences (theft of and from vehicles) shown as a collective total of these combined crimes. There may be scope for this information to be expanded. Visit the crime mapping website. See the Help/FAQ section of the crime mapping site for more information.
