In 2006/07 over 11,000 people enrolled on adult education and family learning courses in Wandsworth.

Cookbook We recently created a Family Learning Cookbook together with Camden and Lambeth Family Learning departments. It has lots of information including: choosing the right foods; buying food; growing your own food etc.

Family Learning Programmes aim to give parents/carers confidence in being involved in their child's education. We currently deliver Family Learning courses in a wide range of venues including over 30 Wandsworth primary and secondary schools. Other participating organisations include Wandsworth Libraries, South Thames College and a number of community and voluntary sector organisations. On the 4 July 2005 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wandsworth went Gospel! Watch how eight schools and two community choirs consisting of parents, teachers and senior citizens made up a 400 strong choir. The course and event was organised by Wandsworth Adult and Community Learning and Wandsworth Music Service together with Project Music Workshops.

Big Draw Celebration Card Competition 2008 As part of National Family Learning Festival in October, wandsworth Family Learning held a Big Draw Competition. This year there were three prizes for Christmas cards and one for an EID card with joint first prize winners. The designs were used for the Wandsworth Lifelong Learning Christmas Cards this year, which were sent to all our providers, and work colleagues.

Writing Competition 2008 As part of the National Family Learning festival in October, Wandsworth Family Learning held a writing competiton. To enter the competition children, young people and parents/carers had to write a short descriptive or ficitonal piece on the theme 'Wandsworth, My Life, My world'. The piece could be set in 2008 or at any time in the past or future and needed to incorporate one or more Wandsworth landmarks or venues into the writing. this could have been the street they live in, their school or a building that interests them.
The response was great, and we recieved over 200 entries from a wide range of age groups and schools, which brought to our attention the creative talent alive within the borough of Wandsworth.
The winners were: 8-12 Years: 1st - Daniel Wyles, Holy Ghost RC 2nd - Caitlin Moloney, Holy Ghost RC 3rd - Jozef Ostrowski, Broadwater School
13-16 Years: 1st - Aakifah Amajee, Balham Preparatory 2nd - Ebony Foster, Chestnut Grove
16+: 1st - Alex Dymoke, Graveney School 2nd - Jill Hopper, Adult 3rd - Juan Francisco Neyra, Adult 3rd - Taslima Mirza, Adult
Special Awards: Brandon Gilbey, Elsley School Connor Gordon, Elsley School

Funding We fund adult and community education in Wandsworth at a number of locations around the borough. Planning for adult and community education is led by Wandsworth LEA in close consultation with the London Central Learning and Skills Council and the Lifelong Learning Development Group consisting of partners from a range of organisations including Further Education, Higher Education, Schools, Prospects, Jobcentreplus, community and voluntary groups, and other council departments.
