Term dates and school holidays

Academic Year 2008-2009
The dates for 2008/09 are based on a framework of dates put forward by the Local Government Association (LGA) of a 190 day pupil year plus five additional staff development days.  Six possible days, (2 September, 3 and 4 November 2008, 20 to 22 July 2009) are proposed from which can be chosen the five development days.  Following publication of the dates for 2007/08 some possible confusion had been identified in that the six optional development days were included in the total of 196 days.  However, it is the position there are 190 statutory days with five development days to be allocated and this is reflected in dates for 2008-2009 below.

Autumn term 2008

First day: Wednesday 3 September 2008
Last day: Friday 19 December 2008 (73 days)
Half term: 27 to 31 October 2008

Spring term 2009

First day: Monday 5 January 2009
Last day: Friday 3 April 2009 (60 days)
Half term: 16 to 20 February 2009

Summer term 2009

First day: Monday 20 April 2009
Last day: Wednesday 22 July 2009 (62 days)
Half term: 25 to 29 May 2009

From the overall framework of 195 days set out above, schools will identify 190 pupil days and five professional days/INSET days for staff on which pupils will not attend.

Autumn term 2009

First day: Thursday 3 September 2009
Last day: Friday 18 December
Half term: 26 to 30 October

Spring term 2010

First day: Monday 4 January 2010
Last day: Thursday 1 April
Half term: 15 to 19 February

Summer term 2010

First day: Monday 19 April
Last day: Friday 23 July
Half term: 31 May to 4 June

The dates set out above are based on a 190 pupil-day year with five development days, which may be allocated as whole day training sessions during holiday periods or by the use of additional hours before or after school sessions.
