All courses will be free unless you go to a private, fee-paying school or college.

College students may have to pay a 'registration fee' and costs of equipment (e.g. for courses in catering, photography, hairdressing)

Your parents/carers can continue to get Child Benefit while you are in full time education  (up to the age of 19)

EMA

There are two schemes available to help young people aged 16-19 to stay on in education:

  1. The Education Maintenance Allowance and The Learner Support fund.
  2. Education Maintenance Allowance

This is a weekly allowance

This is the new School Access Fund and is available to anyone who is studying at a school sixth form, who is not eligible for an Education Maintenance Allowance, (or for anyone who is receiving an EMA and still in financial hardship).

Money for studying is readily available to those who are serious about it. There are so many options, everyone is covered.

Learner Support Fund

The award is £250 per term and pupils can also apply for travel assistance and help with equipment or field trip costs. Apply as early as you can, there are limited awards.


Childcare

If you are 16 or over but under 19 and want to start learningthen you may be able to get help paying for your childcare for up to £5000 per year.

Learning can include Modern Apprenticeships or E2E courses.

Travel Allowance

  • To get help with travel, you must be:
  • Attend school in the borough of Wandsworth, and the journey must be three miles from your home
  • Or, going to a school located out of the borough of Wandsworth, over three miles from your home and have previously been receiving travel assistance from the council.  
  • If you have a disability, then you may be able to receive travel assistance without fulfilling the criteria above. This depends on each person's circumstances and will be looked at individually.
